A sorority provides academic enhancement, friendship, development of leadership skills, and the opportunity to serve the community. As a national organization, a sorority generates personal and professional growth through networking while participating in activities well beyond one's college years.
Service
Sororities at MTSU spend hundreds of hours each semester doing hands-on community service projects and raising money for charities. Each chapter has its own philanthropy, which serves at a local and national level. Panhellenic also completes services projects as a collective body, hosting the Panhellenic Easter Egg Hunt and Trick or Treat on Greek Row. Additionally, sorority women participate in service events sponsored by MTSU like The Big Event, Raiderthon and many more!
Leadership
One of the biggest benefits received from joining a sorority is the opportunity for leadership. A sorority allows involvement not only in a specific chapter, but on the entire campus as well. No matter where you look on the MTSU campus, Greek women are in the spotlight. Sorority women hold positions in the Student Government Association (SGA), MTSU Student Ambassadors, Resident Assistants, Student Orientation Assistants, various professional and honor societies, MTSU athletics, and many more. Membership in a sorority is an ideal way to get involved. Additionally, each chapter depends on the special talents of its membership to coordinate the self-governing aspects of the organization. From the management of the budget to programming of the chapter activities, the members of the sorority ultimately make decisions. Whether serving as an officer, member, or on a committee, the opportunity to apply and enhance your leadership abilities are provided and encouraged.
Scholarship
Scholarship is one of the most important aspects of your college life. MTSU sororities take great pride in achieving high scholastic standards and regularly earns a GPA above the All Women’s GPA. Each chapter has a specific scholarship program that encourages each member to strive for academic excellence. Sororities do this by regulating study hours, maintaining resources files, encouraging tutoring, rewarding those who do well, and helping those with difficulties. Academic networking is a major benefit of a sorority life, having immediate access to upperclassmen who can provide information about different majors, advisors, professors, and study skills. Sorority women realize that the only way to achieve in college and in life is to invest in their academic endeavors.
Friendship
One of the most memorable benefits of joining a sorority is the indescribable relationship that members develop with one another. Friendships that last a lifetime are cultivated through sorority activities and relationships. Sorority members refer to one another as sisters, representing a truly deep connection. Sororities are like families providing support and encouragement to one another throughout life's ups and downs. Sisters are a light upon each member's incredible collegiate journey. Members share stories, laughter, challenges, secrets, and most importantly their hearts with one another. The friendships that form between sisters are mutually rewarding and lifelong.
Social Success
Sorority women are able to further develop social skills through interactions with other members of fraternities and sororities as well as the campus community. Each group maintains risk management policies that ensure they are safe and responsible while having fun. Events include semi-formals, date parties, formals and mixers. Developing appropriate social skills from etiquette to event planning, are valuable skills that sorority women gain through their membership.
Membership Responsibilities
Now for the nitty gritty! Membership in Panhellenic MTSU sororities requires meeting membership responsibilities in the areas of academics, attendance, finances, and housing. While each individual chapter sets these standards, it is the responsibility of the member to uphold them.
Other responsibilities may include participation in weekly meetings, study hours, community service projects, and optional social activities. Sorority membership is a lifelong investment in sisterhood, service, scholarship, and leadership.
